Swine flu bubble

So, remember the tech bubble? There was something to it. Clearly, since I'm writing to you on the internet (you know, a series of tubes.) Then, we had the housing bubble. Not really much to that really. Some made up numbers.

I'm kinda thinking we may be in a Swine Flu bubble.

I mean, yeah, there's this flu going around. People in Mexico are dying. But, really, people die from the regular old flu. Plus, I'm wondering about the statistics on those people in Mexico and their access to clean water and past medical history.

People are panicking because the flu has crossed international boundaries, but the regular flu also does this all the time. But, so far, I'm not seeing a lot to indicate that this flu is more virulent or dangerous than the regular flu. I'm not the only one that thinks so too:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090501/ap_on_he_me/med_swine_flu_virus

"One flu expert says there's no reason to believe the new virus is a more serious strain than seasonal flu. And a federal health official said the new flu virus doesn't appear to have genes that made the 1918 pandemic flu strain so deadly."

But, so far, my parents have called worried about it, my husband thinks he's funny telling everyone that our daughter's fever was the "first case of swine flu", and my hospital is organizing a "Pandemic Flu Team" and "Pandemic Flu Plan" for the hospital including daily meetings.

Now, I'm willing to change my opinion drastically if it starts looking like there is a big reason for concern, but I'm just not there yet. I'm just hoping that this bubble doesn't take my 401K with it like the last two.
