Baby live

This is someone else's story.

I know a lady who has been a labor and delivery nurse for a long time. She's wonderful. I love her. There are some nurses who are so great that I can learn more from them in one shift than I could learn from a year-long class. In Washington State, there was a lady named B.J. When I worked with her, it was like learning a whole new skill set. The lady this story belongs to is in Utah and I'll ask her before I put her name here. Especially because she may want me to fix some of the details.

I love this story.

So, this was a number of years ago. Maybe 30-35. She was working one night and this lady came in in pre-term labor. She was only maybe 23 weeks. At that time, there was nothing really to do about it.

The lady delivered the baby and it was breathing a bit. The baby was going to die. There was nothing they could do for a baby that little at the time. She didn't even have her eyes open yet.

The nurse (lets call her Nurse I) asks this woman if she would like to hold her baby as it passes away. The lady was in tears and said she just couldn't, but she didn't want the baby to be alone, so would Nurse I hold her.

Nurse I held the baby for a bit, but it got very busy and she gently set the baby on a shelf while she went to attend to some other patients. For a while, she was busy. Really running. As soon as she could, she went back to the baby. By this time, the mother had signed the death record. Nurse I was going to take the baby in to see if the mother wanted to say one last goodbye to the now deceased baby.

Only, when she went to get the baby, the baby was moving. You see, now we know about something called cold resuscitation, but at that time, not so much. Putting that baby on the shelf had cold resuscitated her. The baby lived.

Nurse I told me that that mom brought the baby back to see her years later and she was a lovely young girl with really thick glasses. Now that is what I call a miracle baby. That story never fails to amaze me.
